X Via Verano Is The Conscious and Stylish Way To Meditate
Caroline McAlister, Founder/Designer
Los Angeles, CA
In 2006 I graduated with a degree in apparel design, and swiftly found a career designing stage costumes for musicians, most notably Sufjan Stevens. So-Cal born and Seattle raised, I was happy to return back to the California landscape 6 years ago with my husband, musician James McAlister, and our two kids. Since returning to Los Angeles, I’ve continued to design wardrobe for music videos, feature films, and photo shoots (Hayley Kiyoko, XOXO, Dawn Landes, Sports), but all this work in the entertainment industry while raising two kids left me feeling unbalanced.
This is where yoga came in! After finding many healing benefits from my personal yoga and meditation practice, I decided to dig in a little deeper and actually get certified to teach and spread the love. After finishing my first 200 hour yoga teacher training I knew I wanted to integrate my passion for wellness, healing, and beautiful design.
X Via Verano is a wellness influenced lifestyle brand. Named after the street I grew up on in Carlsbad, CA. Via Verano means ‘around summer months’ - which is basically what this LA life is all about. Our products are inspired, designed, and produced under the California sun.
Meditation has been a tool that I’ve been using for a few years to combat stress and anxiety. The Headspace App was actually my gateway into meditation. I could never get comfortable though! Regular pillows were too squishy, and just left me feeling unsupported. It wasn’t until I was in my yoga teacher training that I purchased an inexpensive proper buckwheat filled pillow. It was a game changer for my meditation practice, but didn’t suit my aesthetics to keep around the house. This was when the wheels started turning for my own designs!
X Via Verano is unique in this market because of our intention and thought behind our products. Our xVV Meditation Pillows are hand-dyed, sewn, and filled with sustainable buckwheat hulls in downtown LA. I personally source all of our materials from local venders, so I know where everything comes from. We offer 6 colors, each one holding a special intention based on my education in Ayurveda and chromotherapy.
