The Sustainable Rings Made From Recycled Keys
Jordan Richichi, CEO & Founder of JoJo Rings
I grew up in NY but currently live and run my business in Charleston, South Carolina. I am a soon-to-be mama and love spending time at the beach with my husband when I’m not working. I’m constantly inspired by other women entrepreneurs and love to collaborate with other female entrepreneurs. We really can inspire each other!
JoJo Rings in the simplest sense are rings made from recycled keys. JoJo Rings as a brand is a lifestyle based on our 3 guiding principles: individuality, sustainability, and social good. I imagine that all our of customers embody these characteristics in their everyday life and that’s why they love the brand.
I started JoJo Rings in 2015 during my last semester at Syracuse University. I had made my first rings out of keys to my late-grandmother’s house while taking a jewelry class. I had so much interest in the rings afterward that I decided to start a business. I entered a business plan competition and used the winnings to file for the patent and get the business off the ground. JoJo Rings was born!
JoJo Rings is unique because all of our products are essentially one-of-a-kind. A key is always suggestive of the greater thing it unlocks: a locket, the freedom of a new car, a house one had worked a lifetime to buy. A key is small, but it is charged with possibility and made to fulfill a purpose much larger than its size. The connections our customers have with keys in incredible. Just as I made my first rings out of keys to a special place in my heart, our customers can send in theirs. Being able to bring new life to someone’s first house or car key is amazing and getting to hear the stories are the reason why I love my job.
JoJo Rings prides itself on being a sustainable brand. The process of using a recycled key and making it into jewelry is called upcycling. We have saved over 2,400lbs of brass from ending up in landfills thus far. Our environmental impact has always been the leading force around the brand itself.
Another aspect of our business is that we donate $5 of every purchase to a nonprofit. Our nonprofit partner changes on a bi-monthly basis. We love being able to reach as many different types of organizations as possible from mental health organizations to human trafficking to bringing clean water to underprivileged areas. We have donated over $60,000 in the past 4 years to deserving people around the world.
You can always find me wearing super unique rings that we find. I love anything with tons of details or writing on it. When it comes to styles, the Elegance Collection Rings are my favorite!
