I’m Ali Hoffman Sloan, co-founder of sloan. I was born and raised in Los Angeles. I spent about 6 years living in New York after college working for fashion magazines. I’m now back in L.A., and living with my husband Max and our two dogs.
sloan is a line of simple, tailored and incredibly soft pieces to wear night and day. Though initially aiming to make simple sleepwear, we ended up creating a collection that lives far beyond the bedroom. sloan is a uniform for homebodies and travelers, professional sleepers, and anyone who disrobes tight, restrictive clothing within 30 seconds of walking through the front door. Everything we do is rooted in the belief that the clothes we wear in our downtime should be the ones we love most.
My husband and I launched sloan a little over two years ago. Prior to sloan, I was the Los Angeles editor of Refinery29 — and before that I was the web editor at NYLON. After writing for the internet for a while, I was eager to create something I could touch.
I noticed a gap in the market for minimal, comfortable, well-made pieces that weren't intended for exercise or strictly pajamas. I wanted to have a uniform I could sleep in, but also wear out of the house and feel completely put together. Pieces you can relax and feel like yourself in, but more elevated than your sweatpants and workout leggings.
We make all of our pieces in downtown Los Angeles. We don’t abide by the typical fashion seasons — our entire line is evergreen, meaning we don’t ever get rid of pieces and the end of a season. Instead, all of our pieces our mainstays, and we continue to add new colors and styles to our permanent collection. I think this is a great way to limit the waste we’re putting out in the world.
