My name is Kristen Gonzalez and my interests are dancing, cooking, architecture, and of course fashion. I draw inspiration mostly from nature and buildings whether it be modern, colonial, or ancient. I currently reside in Los Angeles, CA.
Selva Negra is the cultivation of dreaming, color, and conviction. It blends classic shapes with a boyish twist and adds in pops of color and print. We believe wearing Selva Negra should make our customer feel unstoppable in their path. There are no rules to what women should wear and Selva Negra falls into that freedom of expression.
My partner Sam and I came up with the idea when we were both living in Brooklyn in late 2015. We wanted to create a brand that let our ideas flow while representing our Latina heritage. We would have sketch meetings at bars (if they would allow it) and discuss what we wanted for the brand. When we were coming up with the brand name, we parted for the holidays and came back with notes for what names we wanted. Surely enough, the word "Selva" came up on both of our lists. We came up with Selva Negra (meaning "Black Forest" in Spanish) because it represents diversity in animal species and fire in our hearts.
Selva Negra is unique because of how it communicates with our customers. Our clothes invoke a feeling of excitement, independence, hope, and creativity. Everyone is creative even though they say they aren't and we want to bring that to life.
Our new cropped Syd Pant. I can't stop thinking about it or wearing it since we launched it last week.
