NewMade LA is Simple, Functional, and Affordable for Your Modern Home
Simon St. James LeComte, Designer
Los Angeles, CA
I love making and creating; whether it’s art, sculptures, styling, or functional design like NewMade LA- I just like to be hands on. My main inspo comes from the mid-century era; designers like Friso Kramer, Cees Braakman, Coen de Vries or even artists like Harry Bertoia or Louise Nevelson. Creatives like these have always been an inspiration for me. I went to school at San Francisco State University for Industrial Design, and right now I’m living in Los Angeles where my studio and brand is based out of. In addition to NewMade, I also own and operate Simon St. James Studio, where I create custom lighting and furniture for bars, restaurants, and private clientele. My clients include restaurants such as Cafe Birdie, Oriel Chinatown, and Checker Hall, as well as establishments such as Soho House and Hoxton LA to name a few!
NewMade LA is a mid-century inspired, newly produced product line. I believe that mid-century design should be affordable and accessible to everyone. Over the last several years the market for mid-century goods has grown exponentially, driving prices to levels far beyond the reach of most. NewMade LA was my attempt to provide great design at an affordable price. Vintage inspired. Made in Los Angeles.
I’ve always had ideas for simple, functional products for the home. The real beginning was about a year and a half ago when I just officially start the business. We started small but set achievable goals for the brand and the identity and kept growing within our means. I’m constant trying to improve both product and brand identity but I’m very happy with where the brand is at today.
Our products are simple, affordable and functional. We provide a range of colors, Mondrian themed, to satisfy multiple color palettes, and strive to provide the highest quality product at low prices. All of our goods are also designed and manufactured in Los Angeles.
It’s so hard to limit my favorite to one item because I love all of our products equally. Some contenders are: our classic wall and hanging planters, folding stools, and if I have to pick one, our Cube Lights. They just came out of production and I think they’re a great addition to any space that needs some light and pop. The cool thing about them is that they can be either wall mount or just sit on the table, and the chrome tipped bulb makes them a cool art piece.
