Lara Intimates Are Size Inclusive, Sustainable, and London-Made
Cindy, Co-Founder of Lara Intimates
My name is Cindy. I'm American - originally from Boston, and I moved to London when I was 18. I went to university at London College of Fashion, where I met Faith, my business partner at Lara Intimates. I live in Bermondsey, between London Bridge and Tower Bridge. I love walking around in my free time. I also like Pilates, thrift shopping and trying new restaurants.
Lara Intimates makes the world's best bras. We incorporate everything women want in their underwear: sustainably-made, size inclusive, comfortable, beautiful and made in London. Every product is made in Lara's all-female factory in Hackney from deadstock fabrics. We offer one of the widest bra size ranges in the world: 26A-36I - that's 60 bra sizes!
Faith and I came up with the idea for Lara Intimates while studying at London College of Fashion. We both took a work placement year to gain experience, and we were appalled by the low quality, fit and sustainability standards in the industry. We knew we could create a business with better values and better products.
We try to be sustainable throughout our supply chain. Here are the steps we take:
Fabrics are deadstock, unused by large factories or brands otherwise destined for landfill
Elastics and garment labels are made responsibly in England
Gold rings and slides are made in France by one of the last remaining European lingerie component suppliers
Every item is made by our team in London
We manufacture on demand to save stock and textile waste. When someone orders an item, we make one for the customer and a few extras for stock. This ensures we have stock directly based on orders, reducing our wastage.
We cut fabric in tight lay planning to further reduce fabric waste
Textile waste is sent to the shredder and back to us. We're currently designing a product that will be stuffed with textile offcuts. Stay tuned!
I love the Ava Bra in lilac and black!
