WHO

Cayla O’Connell Davis and Lauren Sagadore, Co-Founders of Knickey

Chelsea, NY

Knickey was launched by Cayla O’Connell Davis and Lauren Sagadore in the winter of 2018. While Lauren is originally from Canada, we both currently live in NYC - running the business from our HQ in Chelsea. We get inspiration from the city itself, its diverse inhabitants, and ever-evolving landscape.

WHAT

Knickey is a women's underwear brand offering the best basic briefs from certified organic cotton. Making organic the everyday option through elevated, affordable intimates, Knickey is for the woke woman who seeks comfort, durability, and certified sustainability: GOTS, Oeko-Tex and Fair Trade to be exact.

WHEN

After working in design and retail, I learned firsthand the detriment that the fashion industry has on our planet, and its people. I actually focused my Masters thesis in Fashion Studies on sustainability practices and the overall supply chain - upon completing that research and working briefly for the environmental nonprofit, CDP - I vowed to make products that are better for the earth, and better for us - starting with the first layer we don daily: undies.

After pitching the idea to Lauren, we agreed that her background in operations and former experience running logistics for a retail startup would be the perfect fit for Knickey - and we got to work on realizing the concept together.

We aim to divert textile waste from landfills, and in-turn optimize system circularity for an otherwise disposable product. We even reward you for the act with a free pair in return.

WHY

Beyond a tight edit of the ultimate everyday undies in beautiful hues, Knickey's sustainable packaging is designed to be reused - specifically so you can recycle your old undies when you get your new and improved Knickeys. We aim to divert textile waste from landfills, and in-turn optimize system circularity for an otherwise disposable product. We even reward you for the act with a free pair in return. For convenience and added cost savings, we also offer a curated subscription service for Organic Undies on Autopilot.

FAVORITE

While I am a pretty loyal devotee to the Low-Rise thong daily, I LOVE the High-Rise Brief - it has quickly become a cult classic!

SUSTAINABLE

We’re super picky about who we work with because we believe quality products come from quality people who manage their farms, facilities, and factories responsibly. As a result, we have a fully certified sustainable supply chain, and are always looking to improve upon our offering.  From seed to shelf, organic cotton is better for the environment, the people who produce it, and the people who wear it. It's grown without the use of genetically modified seeds, toxic pesticides, or harmful fertilizers, which is a gamechanger for biodiversity. Processing organic cotton saves water, recycles waste and prioritizes renewable energy sources to reduce overall climate impact.

Our factories are Fair Trade certified to ensure everyone involved in the production of Knickey undies is treated with the respect and care they deserve. That means living wages, safe working conditions, and absolutely no toxic substances that could be harmful to people’s health. By making better choices across the supply chain, we can conserve more natural resources and prevent further detriment to the environment - combating pollution, reducing waste creation and preventing forced labor.
