Humble & Grand Encourages a Calming Sense of Peace in Your Home
Lauren Kellim & Erin Conklin, Co Founders
We are sisters and also best friends. We both possess a very strong passion for a well organized and well-curated home. Having been raised in the same household with parents who held strong values and did every project on their own, furnished us with a deep seeded need to achieve this for ourselves and for others. We see the value that living simply and in spaces that nurture our private selves can hold. We live that way.
Humble & Grand is a boutique organizing and design company and an online shop. We help guide our clients to create a thoughtful, authentically curated, organized home. We help them develop systems that will keep their homes tidy. We suggest them using certain eco-friendly and small-batch products in their home, and we create a cohesive style in their space. One that is authentic to them and most importantly, one that will feel nurturing.
This world is too busy to have our homes feel busy too. We need slowness and calmness and peace within our walls. Every one of our companies' aspects supports the other. For example, when we organize, we also do some redecorating, and whatever the job is we always end up using products from our line of small-batch goods.
Humble and Grand has been brewing for a long time. We both started out in medicine, specifically surgery. During my stint working in surgery, I attended UCLA extension for Interior Architecture. Erin honed her skills in managing the surgery supply department. The experiences we both had working within a very structured and organized atmosphere help mould our way of working now. We also have both travelled a lot. We both agree that travel has had the biggest influence on our design choices and creative ideas.
During my pregnancy in 2014, ( Erin was also trying to get pregnant at that time) we decided that once our kids were born we needed to make the leap into owning our own boutique firm. We wanted to do what we love, make our own schedule so we could be moms first. So far we do not regret a minute. I have a 4-year-old and Erin a 3-year-old. We want our girls to see their moms running their own small company, to learn you can do whatever you put your mind to.
Humble & Grand is not unique. Our model has been done before. Everyone's has, really. What we are is authentic. Our personal experiences, how we were raised, where we have travelled and the life we have lived creates our own authentic style. All our experiences and our strong set of personal and company values guide every decision we make.
Hmmm, this is a really hard one. Honestly, we can't say one is favorite because every piece is functional and beautiful and we love our artisans all so much!
But we do love our line from Gina Zycher. We connected with her early on, when our shop was brand new and Gina was just starting to find her love for creating pottery. We feel like we have supported each other along our journeys. So for that, her line feels very special to us.
