Golde is Making the Wellness Industry More Approachable, Friendly, and Beautiful

I was raised in a small city in upstate New York not far from Vermont, and we were always exposed to holistic wellness from an early age; in the 90s my mom would do chlorophyll shots. I got into wellness in particular because my mom has Rheumatoid Arthritis - your body's immune system attacks your joints. She struggled my entire childhood and switched over to a more holistic physician and noticed a huge improvement - they were able to get her off a lot of the steroids she was originally prescribed and she felt a lot better. Around that time I was finishing up high school, and seeing that, I really wanted  to be holistic and pursue a career in it.

My mom went broke in the process of seeing this doctor; everything was so expensive. I had this moment of internal reckoning in college; whether I wanted to practice holistic care for the people who can afford it or if i wanted to change the US insurance industry. None seemed appealing at the time.

After graduation I fell into marketing in New York at a tech startup; I was very early there and just got very into the idea of entrepreneurship and being on a small team. I got to work closely with the head of design and it awakened my interest in working creatively.

WHAT

Golde is essentially a wellness company focusing on making ingestible products that are inexpensive and easy to use. Our hero ingredient is turmeric; I discovered it through my mom and noticed a huge difference in my immune system and my skin. It’s a potent super-herb recognized for its beautifying, healing, and mood-boosting properties.

Our mission with Golde is to take the wellness industry, which I think for so many people can feel overwhelming and exclusive, and make it more approachable and friendly to the consumer. We want to make sure it feels good from beginning to end. So often we believe doing something healthy should feel like punishment, but in reality we can build beautiful products that are engaging and fun.

WHEN

My boyfriend Issey and I launched around 2 years ago. For myself, there was an excitement about launching my first business!

We started in January 2017 with one product, no funding whatsoever, and we taught ourselves everything we know. We were very young, no experience and no money. That positive form of naivety was in a way beneficial.

WHY

I think that that the concept of approachability is what distinguishes ourselves. I see wellness continuing to grow; if you look at the beauty industry there are mass brands - wellness is just getting started.

That’s such a hard question! I’ve been loving the matcha blend. I can’t do a lot of caffeine, it makes me really anxious. The matcha is a clean energy. We focused a lot of it the sourcing; my co partner is form japan so that was really important to us.
