The Ethical Made-to-Order Women’s Clothing Line
Lisa Harbottle, Founder of Revelle
Los Angeles, CA
Hello, I’m Lisa, the maker behind the one-woman show that is Revelle - designer, seamstress, pattern maker, cutter, visuals, the list goes on. I’m located in the historic district of Highland Park in Los Angeles where I work out of my converted horse stable studio, in a house built in 1908. I’ve been sewing and making clothing for women my entire life, and have been doing so publicly for almost 2 years now under Revelle.
The women who wear my clothing are my greatest inspiration and I have a particular eye for interesting color combinations and gorgeous fabrics. If I’m not creating clothing, you can find me in the kitchen with my nose in a cookbook and always a bit too much butter in the pan, obsessively collecting rare vintage 45 records from my favorite genres, or outside in our garden with more wild animals to feed than you can probably dream of for someone who lives in Los Angeles.
Revelle is delightfully redefined and responsibly made-to-order in Los Angeles by one woman, limited edition classic women’s sportswear from the finest sustainable fabrics.
I wanted to create a clothing company that focused on individual women; it’s all I’ve ever known as far as making clothing. I believe in limited edition runs of made-to-order clothing that are custom to an individual’s measurements. I wanted to create a company that produced no extra waste - using only fabrics that return to the earth by leaving little or no footprint. I wanted to address and educate about conscious shopping and buying well. A touch of sophistication, a touch of glamour and a fit that is comfortable for you to wear and live in. All of that meant what my name became – clothing to enjoy with pleasure, which is the word revel. My wonderful friend was the one who suggested that because I do this for woman, perhaps we spell it differently and that is how Revelle was born.
Revelle is unique because it’s made-to-order, it’s custom to your measurements, the fabrics offered are exclusive & limited edition and perhaps most importantly – it’s me who is making, not a factory, it’s from my hands to your life.
This is an incredibly difficult question to answer! Every item in my signature range was born because this is what I love to wear most often. In the colder months you can likely find me in an outfit of my Cropped Sweatshirt, Gentlewoman Pant, and Dolman Duster. In the warmer months you will always find me in the Traudie Tank and Voyage Skirt. The design I am most proud of currently is the Studio Dress, it’s just wonderful.
There are many ways, starting with the fabric - where I purchase from, how it’s produced or dyed to the production end – that I am the maker. All of my garments are made-to-order, resulting in no over-produced waste and almost all garments are custom to an individual’s measurements, inclusive of all sizes. I know this process has changed the shopping habits of most of my customers and I believe that has a sustainable impact as well!
