Cadette Jewelry is Modern, Mindful, and Celebrates the Joy of Womanhood
Allison Asis, Founder & Designer
My name is Allison Asis, a digital marketing specialist, jeweler and founder of Cadette Jewelry. I’m originally from a suburb called Mississauga. But as a teen, I longed to be in the bustling city, so as soon as I graduated from university, I moved downtown and lived there for several years. I currently live in Etobicoke and am enjoying being the ‘middle ground’ between the downtown Toronto and suburbia.
My greatest interests all involve various aspects of entrepreneurship, creative expression, and community. I currently spend the majority of my time building the Cadette Jewelry business. As a one-woman operation, I work on everything from design, to handcrafting each piece, to marketing, eventing, and more. It’s my heart, soul, and life. And I couldn’t be happier knowing that I’m following & fulfilling my dreams.
I must say that community is something that I’ve come to value more than ever, as well – especially in reference to being part of a community of fellow artisans, makers, and small business owners. There are so many incredible creative entrepreneurs in Toronto that I’ve had the pleasure of connecting with, and I recognize how critical is it to surround one’s self with like-minded individuals to stay motivated and inspired.
Cadette Jewelry is a line of artisanal jewelry for the modern and mindful woman. The brand was made to connect with females who consciously seek eye-catching, meaningful designs that have a sincere timelessness and attention to craftsmanship. The designs are greatly inspired by art & architecture, nature, and the journey of womanhood.
I’ve always had a truly creative spirit, ever since I was a child. I loved to draw, paint, create things and use my hands.
During university, where I majored in media & communications, as well as art history, I recognized a deep desire to still have a creative outlet. It was during those uni years that I ran a personal style blog, acquiring a great following. But soon after, I realized I had another calling – and that was to create tangible items to put out into the world. I eventually delved into jewelry-making, took numerous metalsmith classes, and quickly fell in love with it. And in 2013, I launched Cadette Jewelry.
Cadette Jewelry is unique because of the significant storytelling that that I infuse into everything that I do. It's my mission to create thoughtfully-made jewelry that women are proud to wear and cherish, so it's critical that I constantly share my full artisanal process as well as brand values on all digital channels: I often highlight where I source inspiration from, my drafting of initial sketches, and how I execute each piece by hand, from start to finish. I love to show my audience the craftsmanship, care, and meaning behind each creation.
Additionally, I make sure to communicate my brand values in meaningful ways – such as my passion for community amongst women. With that in mind, I launched the #CadetteWomen interview series. This initiative is focused on building community amongst creative women who are actively sharing their unique voice & vision through their crafts. So I meet & connect with creative women around the city to hear and share their stories through video, imagery and interviews on Cadette's website & social platforms.
The Female Form necklace is my favourite piece – it truly captures the essence of the brand. It’s handmade in the image of an abstract female figure, representing the ever-evolving woman, restless in her pursuit of purpose, fulfillment & growth. I encourage women to wear the piece as a symbol go self-love and support of their personal dreams & goals. I never part with mine – she’s forever a part of me.
